Alpha Oak is a family run business, and as specialists in the construction of oak framed buildings and garden structures, we endeavour to meet each project, however large or small, with the same professionalism and enthusiasm. Each building is bespoke, with the machining of all the oak on sight, and illustrates the craftsmanship and detail involved, whilst using traditional materials and skills.

Oak Buildings
Oak frames are ideally suited to barn style structures. Layouts often show a run of bays with fewer modern divisions inside, and are usually weatherboarded externally. Features include open framework and contemporary joinery. Designs may include larger areas of glass and simple frame arrangements. These designs use a combination of oak frames and enclosed areas, blending the medieval craft with modern day technology and materials.

Traditional Buildings
We specialize in traditional oak buildings such as summer houses, garages, stables and many more garden structures. The timber we use is the finest European Oak, sourced from FSC approved suppliers. It is solid and durable, able to last many many years of service. We offer a total `start to finish` bespoke service and will be happy to discuss your needs.

Materials
The materials and methods we use are very much traditional. `Green oak` is felled from sustainable sources and delivered to the site ready for machining.
All of our timbers are sawn to order, from selected suppliers. The beauty of using oak is that it is a naturally durable timber, which requires no further treatment. All of the beams are inspected by ourselves to ensure maximum stability when used.
The oak beams are supplied with a sawn finish, however a full planing service is available to give a smooth surface. We also machine beams to request, e.g. Braces and Curved pieces.

Methods
Traditional methods are used in the frame work. Mortise & tenon and half lap joints, all pegged together with kiln dried oak pegs, which strengthens to a superbly strong fit as the oak dries out in situ.
The methods we employ to create your oak building are designed to be in keeping with the style and craftsmanship of these traditionally built features as well as to harmonise with it`s surroundings and existing buildings
